Early enrollment figures at Cochise Community College are nearly double what they were in 2009 but school officials are not sure if it will have a dramatic impact overall.

The numbers are compared at an eight-week mark before classes begin. On the Douglas campus 1,605 people have registered so far for the 2010 school year which is about double for the same time length as last year.
District wide 5,058 people have registered compared to 2, 853 last year during the same length of time, Merkel said. The ratio of full-time to part-time students enrolling at Cochise College in classes for credit, district wide, at five weeks prior to school starting are almost identical to last year, Merkel said.
In the fall 2009 there were 766 or 42 percent full-time students and 1,060 or 58 percent part-time students with a total of 1,826 students enrolled all together. For fall 2010 there are 1,060 or 40 percent full-time students and 1,573 or 60 percent part-time students with a total of 2,633 students enrolled all together, Merkel said.
There are a few new classes being offered at Cochise this year that might appeal to any age not just college students. The classes are non-traditional classes, short- term and non-credit classes.
The following classes are offered in Douglas and Bisbee during the late summer/fall time. Other “hobby” classes are available in Sierra Vista and can be found at the following websites:
