Changes made in Superior Court
Effective August 2, 2010, two divisions of the Superior Court in Cochise County will be relocated and have changes made in case assignments. Division Four, the Honorable Ann R. Littrell will now be located in Bisbee and will hear civil, domestic relations and criminal cases. Division Six, the Honorable Donna M. Beumler, will now be located in Sierra Vista and will preside over the juvenile court, hearing delinquency, dependency, adoption and severance matters. Judge Beumler will also assume the duties of presiding juvenile court judge, overseeing administrative matters specific to the juvenile court.
Customs seizes $688,000 in pot
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers stopped a smuggling attempt when they intercepted 147 pounds of marijuana being passed over the border fence by rope. After a short exchange between officers and smugglers, CBP officers were able to secure the marijuana.
Car accident blocks traffic, three taken by ambulance
A car accident on 5th Street and Chiricahua Road between a black Ford Mustang driven by two females and a maroon Oldsmobile Intrigue driven by a man caused traffic to be rerouted Friday, July 30. All three victims who are unidentified at this time were transported by ambulance from the scene.

Wells Fargo is extending its third annual summer food drive in Arizona to collect donations for food banks throughout the state. The drive, begun July 15, will now continue through August 7. The effort will help fill food shelves that feed Arizonans in need.

Cochise County Youth Orchestra enrolling members for Fall 2010 semester
The Cochise County Youth Orchestra (CCYO) is now welcoming violin, viola, cello and string bass players to join in the fun next semester, which runs from Aug. 10 through Dec. 8, 2009. Students from elementary to high school age who have at least one year of playing experience and are either currently taking private lessons, or who pass an audition, are eligible to join. Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Calvarys Rock Church, 231 Canyon Drive in Sierra Vista. Tuition is $105 for the 18-week semester and registration deadline is August 7. A limited number of tuition scholarships are available.

Mexican Consulate celebrates centennial with photo exhibition
As part of the commemorations about the Bicentennial of Independence and the Centennial of the Mexican Revolution, the Consulate of Mexico in Douglas, is proud to present a Joint Exhibition of Photography "El Camino Real", which aims to provide a tour by the Sonoran Desert through the lens of renowned photographers from Mexico, the United States and Canada.

First Presbyterian Church holds annual scholarship luncheon
Mary Nosek, Carol Huddleston, Sylvia Valenzuela and Shirley Jewell are part of the Presbyterian Women at the First Presbyterian Church. The church is holding its annual scholarship luncheon Sunday, August 15 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The fundraiser will have sliced spiraled ham, rolls, salads ranging from potato salad to fruit salad and everything in between, homemade desserts and beverages will also be available. The church is at the corner of D Avenue and 10th Street and the cost is $6 for adults, $3 kids age 4-12 and under 3 no charge.
