Senior Mike Abrigo revealed to his teammates Friday he has torn his ACL and may be done for the season.

Abrigo, son of Greg and Veronica Abrigo, was scheduled to play wing in the new offense as well as kick for the Bulldogs this coming season.

Abrigo’s injury did not take place on the new Astroturf field but rather during drills on the practice field behind the DHS gym, Douglas Coach Dick Keith said.

“Mike had worked really hard to get himself ready,” Keith said. “He was really popping out there the first couple of days in pads. I know he feels bad; the team feels bad.

Abrigo said he is scheduled for surgery later this month.

" Michael recieves about two a letters a week from colleges that want him because he a awsome kicker. I know this for a fact because I have the pleasure of giving him those letters. When he got hurt the bulldogs lost a key player.
Michael I pray for your speedy recovery and that you get the chance to play in the level. Don't listen to all those hater that have never done swat in their lives. THANK YOU BRUCE you continue to do a great job informing the public about OUR bulldogs. "

" To confussed and whatever, I thought it was the responsibility of the media to report on what goes on with the team good or bad, win or lose. This is what the Dispatch is doing ... informing its readers on what is going on with this team. I do not live in Douglas anymore but follow the Bulldogs through the internet. This story tells me this team lost a key player and maybe hurting at his position.
    Good luck Michael....
PS: who cares if its astro or synthetic turf... it's still artifical. Geez stop complaining....Its bench critics like you that give Douglas a bad name. "

" Little Mikey stubed his toe at tee-ball practice... He will not be able to run to first base for three weeks.

It is sad but true fact, Bruce must be good friends with the parents to get their name in the newspaper. Next we will have their address printed to send flowers or should we just send them to Bruce?

Good kid, good intentions wrong thing to do! Now we have to print every kids injuries regardless if they are seniors!

Good Job Bruce... as usual! "

" Why don't you just maybe pray for the young man and wish him a successful recovery? Why are there so many people out there who are so critical and negative about everything?! Would you rather just read about the drug busts and police records and about all those involved in crime who got away? Heads up-over the week-end we heard that another local athlete was injured so you may want to skip reading the newspaper next week because there will probably be mention of that also! "

" I have to agree, "MICHAEL ABRIGO" is a "WONDERFUL ATHLETE"!!! Along with the rest of the Douglas Bulldogs !!!!
I can't believe that there are people out there that have nothing better to do with their time than to sit there and complain!!! Give me a break, I am sure if this would have happened to ANY of our GREAT Football Players the same would have been reported about them!!! Get over it, at least we know what is going on with our kids and they know SOME of us support them 100%....
Thanks to the great staff at the Douglas Daily Dispatch for doing such a great job, Keep up the good work !!! Hope you are feeling better Michael and you will be back doing what you like to do very soon... "

" If anything, this is not a full article. And if you saw the key terms, "senior," "done for the season,"
"KICKER." He's the only kicker the team had. I have attended practices as an observer and the biggest question from the coaches now is, "Who is going to kick?" Mike was averaging inside the opponents 10 on kick offs, 50 yards on field goals, and automatic on PAT's. Any coach or team would be concerned if they lost this type of player for the season. If your backup kicker can only average 20 yards on kick off, and cant even get a good kick on field goals, there's cause for concern. Also, any time a player gets injured it is noted in the dispatch every time. "
