Sparks will fly when local skateboarders hit the ground this Saturday.

The International Skate Festival will take place August 14 at the Douglas Skate Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is not just for kids; skaters of all ages from Douglas, Bisbee, Sierra Vista, Agua Prieta, Tucson and all areas of Southern Arizona are invited to participate in the competition.

The levels in the competition will vary from beginner’s level ground skating, to intermediate level, skate on rails and finally advanced level performing on ramps with tricks. A donation of $1 from skaters is asked for enrollment in the competition.

This community event is hosted by the Bisbee Youth Advocates and Southeastern Arizona Behavioral Health Services Inc.. Sponsors are still needed to help with prizes for the winners of the competition.

Sponsors will be advertised on Stream TV live, banners, t-shirts and more. “We are making this event to increase community cohesion and community education via multimedia outreach and a substance free event for youth and our international communities in the border area,” Alexandra Boneo with SEABHS said.

Skaters can register before or at the event. To be a sponsor or to register call Alexandra Boneo at 456-5233 or email at ntdouglas@gmail.com.
