Fair only three weeks away

The Cochise County Fair in only three weeks away, and this years fair offers fun, food and excitement.


The fair starts on Thursday, September 23, and extends until Sunday, September 28.

Thursday is Seniors Day, with all seniors 60 years of age and above getting into the fairgrounds for only $1. Student Day on Friday offers the same discount. The only exception is school groups on busses, who will have free entry on Friday.

Prices for the fair is $6 for adults and $3 for students (ages 6 to 17) and seniors (60 years and over). Children five and under are admitted free. Parking is $3.

This year’s fair is dedicated to the Krentz family, who has been involved with the fair for generations. The ribbon cutting ceremonies will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 23,

Other activities taking place on Thursday will include the Western Horse Show, 9:30 a.m., and Small Stock and Breeding Swine, Market Ho9g and Swine Showmanship shows.

On Friday, September 24, events kick off with the Horse Show, 8:30- a.m., The rodeo slack begins at noon, and the College Rodeo will begin at 7 p.m.

Saturday, September 25, features the 4-H dog show, 8 a.m., College Rodeo Championship Round, noon, the 4-H/FFA Awards, 4:30 p.m. ; and the Ranch Bronc riding in the arena, 6 p.m.

The highlight the final day of the fair, Sunday, September 26, will be the Market Livestock Sale, which begins at 1:30 p.m.

The carnival, operated by Brown’s Amusements, will be open at 10 a.m. all four days of the show.

In addition to the rides, and local exhibits, there will also be a petting zoo each day sponsored buy Southeast Arizona Medical Center and the Cochise County Fair Association. The Stingray exhibit will also be available to view at no cost as patrons walk through the gates.

All new performers will be providing their brand of entertainments during the four-day event.

Comedian/Hypnotist Alan Sands will be performing all four days on stage.

Providing music during the fair will be Alley Cats, 6 p.m., Thursday; Fresh, 8 p.m. Friday; Whiskey Rodeo, 8 p.m., Saturday; and XS Band, 6 p.m. Sunday.

The Alley Cats will also be performing on Friday and Saturday at noon. Local folk band, the Simmons Family Band, will also be performing on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

All-day ride wristbands will be available in a limited supply from Safeway beginning September 18. The wristbands cannot be used in conjunction with “Buddy Day” on Friday, September 24. Buddy Day is when two people can ride on one ticket.

    " Quick correction... Tickets for the fair are already on presale at Safeway. They are $18 each. They've been on sale since Friday 3 (hopefully I'm correct).

    " I believe the fair is excellent! i have always thought it is more for the children than for the adults! and the children love what is available!! it is sad that some people do not appreciate what is done in this community!!!!! "
