A construction worker was nearly electrocuted Tuesday, August 10, when he tried to start work on a electrical panel before the power was shut down.

APS was to shut the power off to the area at 4 p.m., according to Assistant School District Superintendent Bonnie Lopez. An earlier memo had been sent out to teachers and staff warning them of the electrical shutdown so the Summitt Group could begin the work.
But one worker either didn't get the memo, was confused about the time or was just impatient.
Attired in gogles, protective gloves and other safety gear, he attempted to open up an electrical panel when it exploded, causing second-degree burns to his face, hands and arms.
"We immediately called for campus security and an ambulance," Lopez said.
"At first, he didn't want to go on the ambulance, but his employer insisted."
He eventually was airlifted to a Tucson hospital as the burns became more severe and the pain became intense.
The hospital eventually put him in a drug-induced coma to make it easier to cope with the pain but the feeling was that he would recover, she said.
