A thunderstorm hit suddenly Saturday while a tri-hosted fundraiser by the local Catholic churches was underway. A jewelry tent blew sideways with the wind, shattering a large piece of amethyst and other gems along with it.

Man Survives Fall
A construction worker fell more than 20 feet to the concrete below while working on the new locker room and concession stand at the Armando de Lucaas football stadium Friday. It is the second injury related to school district construction projects in 10 days. Douglas Fire Department paramedics arrived but were have trouble stabilizing his blood pressure, according to reports. While a helicopter was at the field, he was transported by ambulance to Southeast Arizona Medical Center and later air-evaced to Tucson. No further information was available on his condition.

Car Seats distributed throughout Cochise County
The AZ Governor's Office of Highway Safety has awarded 250 children's car seats to Cochise County for 2010 through an award made to Cochise Health Network. The seats will be distributed throughout the county, with 100 of the seats going to the Douglas and Willcox areas. The objective of this program is to increase the rate of car seat usage by distributing and safely installing car seats, and providing safety information to the public. In the Douglas area, car seats installations are provided by Douglas Fire Department [contact person - Jesse Munoz 520-727-0606]. Information will also be provided at the Douglas Care Fair 2010 that will be held September 11, 9am-1pm at the Douglas Farmer's Market at Castro Park.

Sales of existing homes in Cochise County were up 35.3 percent in the second quarter compared to the first quarter. From April through June, 341 homes were sold countywide, compared to 252 in the first quarter. Sales in the second quarter were up 11.8 percent compared to the second quarter of last year. Sales data are from the Southeast Arizona Multiple Listing Service and the Tucson Area MLS.

Local cost of living up slightly, but still below national average
According to the ACCRA Cost of Living Index, the cost of living in Cochise County was 2.2 percent lower than the national average in the second quarter of 2010.
