Good news for the Duron family once again.

Natalie Lakosil/Douglas Dispatch Douglas Noon Lion’s members Frank Vasquez, Art Estrada and Gustavo Montano present Manuel Duron with a $5,000 donation made anonymously from a Douglas resident. They also presented Duron with $200 from the Lion’s to go towards his daughter, Olivia’s medical expenses.

A story published July 21 Douglas Dispatch helped the Duron family to receive a donation they never expected. An anonymous donor from Douglas reached out to Lions Club members after reading the story and donated $5,000 to help with medical expenses.

Olivia Duron, 27, was diagnosed with leukemia in December 2009 and recently underwent surgery for her eye. Complications from the cancer caused her to lose her eyesight recently.

The Duron family is from Douglas but has relocated to Tucson for convenience with Olivia’s medical care. A few members from the Lions Club also made a trip to a casino August 7 and raised $400.

Half of the $400 raised went to Duron’s medical expenses and the other $200 went to the Douglas Noon Lions for the Eye Project Fund. The Lion’s Club works year round to raise funds for children and elderly in need of eyeglasses and eye exams.

The Lion’s Club worked alongside local community members at a casino last month to help raise $750 for Duron’s medical expenses.
