Phoenix couple arrested for exporting guns

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized an illegal exportation of 3 loaded firearms and 277 rounds of ammunition when they stopped a Phoenix couple and searched their vehicle during outbound operations.


On August 22 at approximately 4:30 p.m. CBP officers were screening travelers in the outbound lane that directs traffic from the U.S. into Mexico. CBP officers came in contact with a 1996 Toyota being driven by a 33-year-old man. The man was accompanied by a 24-year-old woman. Both the man and the woman were identified as United States citizens and residents of Phoenix, Arizona. CBP officers were conducting outbound operations when they became suspicious of the vehicle that the Phoenix couple was driving. A search of the vehicle revealed two 9mm handguns loaded with full magazines and one of them had a live round in the chamber. A 22 caliber rifle was also found wrapped in a blanket and concealed in the trunk area hidden under speaker boxes. In addition to the firearms, 277 rounds of ammunition and spare magazines were also discovered.

CBP Officers seized all of the weapons, ammunition, magazines and the vehicle. The man was turned over to custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation and prosecution. The woman was turned over to ICE for further questioning.

Assailant kicks CBP officer in face

NACO, Arizona —U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers apprehended an illegal immigrant who was attempting to make entry into the United States by avoiding inspection. As the officers attempted to gain control, the assailant kicked the officer in the face in an attempt to escape.

On August 23 at approximately 8 p.m. CBP officers were screening traffic when they noticed a man in the outbound pedestrian lane that directs traffic into Mexico. The man was attempting to go north into the U.S. undetected. As the CBP officers responded to where the man was, he began to climb a security fence in order to avoid apprehension. When the CBP officers attempted to apprehend the man he resisted by kicking one of the CBP officers in the face.

CBP officers secured the man and turned him over to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation and prosecution. The man was charged with Assault on a Federal Officer.
