Kathleen Gomez, chairperson for the Douglas Mercado Farmers Market Committee, says they're trying to encourage all kind of backyard growers and artists not only from Douglas, but from Agua Prieta to come to Castro Park, every Saturday

For only $5 to $10 they will get a space to sell products.

At the Douglas Mercado customers can find fresh products which help to reduce risk of disorders, such as obesity and diabetes. Also, if you like, the vendors can give you special information regarding the preparation of certain recipes made with the products they sell.

Besides food, customers can buy arts & crafts, like special designed candles and a great diversity of jewelry handmade by artist Jake Burton, from Great Lobo Candles.

9/11 CARE Fair

Kathleen Gomez wants to invite Douglas and Agua Prieta residents to be part of the CARE Fair to be held on September 11th, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Castro Park. At the fair, the community will have the opportunity to receive direct health care services from the participants, which include: Southeastern Arizona Medical Center, Chiricahua Community Health Center, First Things First, Cochise County Health Department, SEABHS, Copper Queen Medical Associates, DMD Heart & Hoovers, Mexican Consulate, Cancer Relay for Life, Douglas for Stronger Families, DES Child Care, Pantana, Cochise Work Force, Fire Department, Parent Information Network/ADE/ESS, U of A Cooperative Extension SNAP-ed, Pasos Adelante Promotora Outreach/Canyon Ranch Center for Prevention and Health Promotion/MEZCOPH/University of Arizona and Lifeline.

And for all kids, the CARE Fair will present Jumping castles, a diversity of games, miniature horses and more. Also, Carne Asada will be served at $5 per plate.

Part of the profits will be used to renovate the center building of the park and converted into a kitchen and food center, to start a new education process about food within the Douglas Mercado.
