John R. Dicey, born May 2, 1943 to Robert and Eugenie Dicey, passed on to a new adventure on August 26, 2010.

During the past year, in the face of terminal cancer and diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, he lived with the same dignity, courage and determination to live his abbreviated life as fully as he had always done.

“Jack” graduated from Franconia College and attended the University of Kentucky. He began his long career of service to the disadvantaged by working at St. Colletta’s Home for Children in Wactman, Massachusetts. Whether living in San Francisco, Hilo, Hawaii or Bisbee, he worked to assist the homeless and disadvantaged in soup kitchens and shelters. Soon after moving to Bisbee in 1995, he became involved with The Bisbee Coalition for the Homeless, where he quickly made himself a familiar and indispensible figure. In Bisbee, as in every other place he lived, he touched the lives of many who will remember him for his good will, his humor and his generosity.

Jack is preceded in death by his brother, George Dicey and sister, Linda Dicey.

He is surivived by his sister-Joan (Richard) Wurster; nieces-Kimberly (Stuart) Zamsky and Jenifer Wurster; nephews-Jon (Amanda) Wurster and Richard (Joanie) Wurster; and eight great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his friends-Richard Obenchain and Raphael Angel Arenas Wong. He was loved and will be missed by all.

Jack had a special place in his heart for St. Martin De Porres Hospitality House in San Francisco. Remembrances in his name could be sent there or to The Bisbee Coalition for the Homeless, PO Box 5852, Bisbee, AZ, 85603

Rest in peace, dear friend, you have done well.

A celebration of Jack’s life is being planned for October.
