About the service

Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest started 40 years ago in Tucson, Arizona. For the last six years the organization has been working also in Cochise County, with Erika Saavedra as Home Care Supervisor and having their office at 400 E. 1st Street.

Saavedra explained that the service they provide is not only related to senior citizens but also to anybody who really needs to receive assistance with basic services no matter their age. “As a matter of fact do have several young people on the program, most of them due to medical needs. We are here to provide a service that is needed.”

According to Saavedra records, Lutheran Social Services makes quite an impact on the community. “Number one, I think is a pretty good number of people we have employed, especially with the economy right now; I think it makes a difference; number two, also this service gives our members independence, because our care providers makes sure that our members are eating, taking their medication, basically getting their needs met.”

Saavedra also explained that they are still trying to reach more people in the community to expand their help. “Even though we have 86 members who receive our services we still have people who do not know that this services are available. I’d would like to invite everybody who has a relative that may qualify for this program, just come over and we can help them out.”
