PHOENIX — The drumbeat in the U.S. House of Representatives to reduce federal spending is being heard close to home, as federal cuts of more than $1 billion have been proposed for Community Health Centers. For Arizona, it would mean the loss of more than $3 million.

Largest moon in decades
On March 19th, 2011, a full Moon of rare size and beauty arose to impress all viewers with its yellow color and its clarity. This full moon was the biggest in almost 20 years. The last full Moon so big and close to Earth occurred in March of 1993. Full Moons vary in size because of the oval shape of the Moon's orbit. It is an ellipse with one side (perigee) about 50,000 km closer to Earth than the other (apogee): diagram. Nearby perigee moons are about 14% bigger and 30% brighter than lesser moons that occur on the apogee side of the Moon's orbit.

Burglary investigation turns into explosives search
On Thursday March 10, 2011 at approximately 5:00pm the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a past occurred burglary which had occurred at a residence in the 4000 block of Monsanto Avenue south of Sierra Vista. While beginning the investigation, Deputies made contact with two subjects who were in the area and after questioning them it was determined that they were suspects in the burglary.

Stowers resigns as Historical Society president
Rebecca Stowers resigned as president of the Douglas Historical Society at the annual meeting on March 1St. She had served in that office for four years. In 2007 when she became president, the volunteer pool had dried up and the society was on the verge of collapse. She said she couldn’t let that happen.

For the second year in a row the Marching Band and the Jazz Band from the Douglas High School is planning its annual educational trip to Disneyland on May 13.
