Corporation to initiate
projects that will support
economic development
through job growth and capital
investments.
“In the coming years, economic
activity in the Douglas
region will take place
through the increase of trade
in the border region resulting
in the demand for transportation
and distribution services
provided at the border and
retail and consumer spending
by our neighbors to the
south,” said Mr. Daniel Ortega,
Chairman of the Douglas
Regional EDC, “the award
of the grant will allow us target
specific industries and
markets relative to the region’s
traits.
Targeted industries will include;
Professional Services
in Logistics and Transportation,
Warehouse & Distribution
Centers, Border Security
Technologies; Renewable
Energy. In addition the Douglas
Regional Economic Development
Corporation will
identify key businesses that
wish to maintain U.S. operations
but with ‘On the Border’
presence to serve the
manufacturing sector in
Northern Mexico
Grant recipients were selected
based on a competitive
application process,
with each application comprehensively
analyzed by a
review committee comprised
of members of the
Arizona Rural Business Advisory
Council. The selection
committee determined
the winners based on the following
criteria:
1. Job Creation
2. Leveraged Dollars
3. Aggressive Timeline
and Ability to Start Project
Quickly
4. Cost Effectiveness
5. Sustainability of the
Project
6. Regional Impact
7. Management and Administrative
Capacity
