Court date in Alvarado murder
case pushed back to July

BISBEE — Aman who allegedly


shot his friend near

Douglas on Nov. 13 will go

on trial in July instead of

next month in Cochise

County Superior Court.

Dwayne J. Nelson, 21, is

charged with first-degree

murder, three counts of second-

degree murder, two

counts of manslaughter and

negligent homicide of 19-

year-old Alex Alvarado.

Nelson and Alvarado got

into a physical altercation

after an evening of drinking,

according to the Douglas

Dispatch.

Alvarado allegedly started

swinging a shotgun at Nelson,

and then Nelson allegedly

shot at Alvarado

with another gun, striking

him in the upper body.

Nelson was supposed to

go on trial starting March

29, but during a hearing in

Division 5 court on Monday,

Judge James Conlogue postponed

the five-day trial until

July 11.
