FRANCISCO BARRIOS/DOUGLAS DISPATCH The Design Review Board members are: Vicky Merritt; Lynn Kartchner; Bruce Endres; Robert Martin and Michael Gutierrez. Not in picture Carlos De La Torre.

Board held a special meeting

on RFebruary 24 in order

to elect officers and review

the Downtown Revitalization

Plan.

At the meeting, Douglas

resident Bruce Endres was

elected unanimously as

Chairman for the Board,

while Robert Marting was

elected unanimously as Vice

Chairman. Other Design

Review Board members are

Carlos De La Torre; Vicky

Merritt; Michael Gutierrez

and Lynn Kartchner.

After the election, Curtis

Shook, City Manager explained

that the purpose for

the Design Review Board is

“To determine all the criteria

for the Downtown Revitalization

Plan and to make an

agreement regarding what

the common theme will be

for the Downtown area.”

Shook also explained to

the Board that besides the

government center, the old

Phelps Dodge Mercantile

will contain a 2,000 Sq. ft

Museum plus a cafeteria

style food service, where

people inside the building

will be able to get coffee,

muffins, toast and it will be

open only from 7 a.m. to 2

p.m.

“This Cafeteria is not intended

to compete with anybody;

if you work in one of

the offices there and you

want to go downstairs and

get a candy bar or an apple,

that’s what is meant to do; it

is not meant to compete with

any food restaurant near the

Phelps Dodge building.”

He also said another free

space will be used for public

activities but there is no certainty

about what the theme

will be yet.

The first action of the Design

Review Board was to

establish the meeting times

and regularity. All members

agreed to do monthly meetings

every third Tuesday of

the month at 5:30 p.m. and

for special meeting the hour

will be noon.
