Kite flying part of Cinco de Mayo event

Why don’t you just go fly a kite.

Instead of a comeback, this will actually be a pretty good suggestion on Saturday, April 30, as the Cochise County Fair Association and Cinco De Mayo Hot Air balloon Festival will host the Artisitic Kite Flying Contest.

The event will be held that Saturday at the fairgrounds beginning at 10 a.m.

Youths are urged to build or decorate a store-bought kite and compete on April 30.

Competition categories include:

√ Ages 8 and under, 10 a.m.,

√ Ages 9 to 11, 10:30 a.m.

√ Ages 12-15, 11 a.m.

√ 16 and older, 11:30 a.m.

√ Team kite flying, noon.

Children 11 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Kites must be less than five pounds and fly below 500 feet.

There is no fee to enter the contest.

Admission to the festival will be $5 for adults and $2 for children 17 and under.

Kite flyers must pre-register with the Cochise County Fairgrounds Association to enter the competition. Rules, instructions and registration is available only online at www.cochisecountyfair.org and closes on April 23.

Kites will be judged on originality. The competition is limited to 25 flyers.
