Smoke and flames could be seen from much of the region as Agua Prieta’s largest street market burned to the ground early Saturday morning, March 5.

The “Tianguis” street market is located at 13th Avenue, between 12th and 13th Streets.

Two of the biggest Agua Prieta businesses are near located near the scene of the fire -- a retail credit store called

“Elektra”; and the other is a food market called “Plaza Ley” which holds at least 20 little businesses within.

At the front of the Street Market is a government-run hospital called “Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social.”

For the 50 people who owns a space at the market it was a total loss because the fire consumed all of the goods so quickly that it was impossible to save. But none of the surrounding structure were damaged There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated
