Rebecca Stowers resigned as president of the Douglas Historical Society at the annual meeting on March 1St. She had served in that office for four years. In 2007 when she became president, the volunteer pool had dried up and the society was on the verge of collapse. She said she couldn’t let that happen.

During her tenure, Rebecca Stowers pulled the society together and with the help of ne volunteers put the museum on a straight path to modernization similar to that of other small museums in southern Arizona. The museum is now computerized with internet access, and the DHS has a web site: douglasazhistoricalsocicty.org and an email address: info.doughistsoc@qwestoffice.net. They have installed Past Perfect, the computer program favored by small museums for accessioning and managing collections in their museum computer, and they have also purchased a digital projector with plans develop an educational program.

The museum has the core of an expanding resource library on Douglas history and its surrounding area, which includes books, photos, and eventually transcribed oral histories. The museum is open two days a week, Wednesday 10-4 and Saturday 12-4.

Rebecca has been a member of the Douglas Historical Society for eleven years.
