The Bisbee Kiwanis Club held a Youth Skills Day Math and Science Seminar for 95 students plus family from Bisbee and Douglas schools at Cochise College on Saturday, February 26. Douglas students made up to 60 while 35 were from Bisbee.

The Skills Day was full of fun, rewarding and enriched classroom experiences as the instructors, through hands of learning, showed how math and science are part of everyday life.

Learning stations included geology of local areas; using scientific methods to reach conclusions; math, both linear and non-linear, including ratios and proportions; the scientific laws governing pressure for balloons and rockets; and graphs as demonstrated by the stock market. The event ended with the firing of various size rockets.

Bob Barnes led the sessions along with instructors Carl Hooper, Ben Buller and Kim McEntee from Bisbee, Jim Merkel of Edward JONES, and Kiwanis Lt. Governor Keith Linden.

This was the second Youth Skills Day this year sponsored by Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold.
