Gene Manring, a long-time resident of Sierra Vista who has participated in a wide array of community service and volunteer activities, has joined the board of the Cochise College Foundation.

Manring retired as a troop commander from the U.S. Army at Fort Huachuca in 1975 and has served the community in many capacities for the past 35 years. He has been a volunteer for the Sierra Vista Regional Health Center Foundation, including three years as board chair and has helped raise nearly $2 million in support of hospital needs. He also serves on the Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative board of directors, including time as board president, treasurer and secretary. In 2002, he was appointed as a member of the Arizona Supreme Court Foster Care Review Board, and he is a member and chair of the local Cochise County Foster Care Review Board.

Previously, Manring served as director of the Dispute Resolution Program for Cochise County Superior Court. He served two years as chair of the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area Advisory Committee, an organization to which he was appointed by the secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior. Manring also was elected to the Cochise County Board of Supervisors in 1988, serving as chair and working on projects related to regional economic development, the courts, water and development, flood control and county operations. He also served as executive director of the Chapman University campus in Sierra Vista, as a member of the Cochise College Governing Board, and as executive director of the Sierra Vista Chamber of Commerce.

“Gene’s service to Cochise County and the State of Arizona will be a tremendous asset to the foundation and to Cochise College,” said Board President Charles Chambers. “We are very excited to begin working with him.”
