The City of Douglas continues work on various projects. This work is being completed by the Department of Public Works and is part of the Mayor and Council’s ongoing infrastructure improvement program.

Temporary Traffic Control Measures

In an effort to alleviate traffic, all vehicles traveling southbound to access the Port of Entry will be diverted to 3rd Street via Chino Road. This traffic access will be “One-Way” from Chino Road to Pan American Avenue. Commercial traffic is already being diverted to 3rd Street via H Avenue.

Curbing Installation

Curb, gutter and sidewalk installation continues on 20th Street from Eddie Avenue to Louis Avenue. Construction hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. No parking is allowed within the construction limits and vehicular traffic is restricted along project limits. Vehicles parked within the project limits WILL BE TOWED AWAY.

Manhole Work /Valve Boxes/Water Main

Raising manholes and valve boxes continues on 21st Street from Louis Avenue to Washington Avenue. Installation of a new water main continues in the alley of 16th Street and 17th Street between Bonita Avenue and Carmelita Avenue. The alley will re-open when work is completed.

Fire hydrant and water system maintenance also continues along with miscellaneous concrete repairs, pothole patching, and graffiti cleanup throughout the city. If you have questions, please contact the Department of Public Works at 417-7329. Should problems arise with water and/or sewer services on the weekend or a holiday, please contact the Douglas Police Department at 417-7550, and staff on call will be dispatched to your residence.

The City asks that you please obey all construction detours and use caution while driving or walking through these construction zones. Please help keep everyone safe.
