Border Patrol Agent shoots Douglas 19 year old

Douglas Dispatch

A 19-year-old Douglas resident was shot three times by a Border Patrol officer on Monday after rocks were thrown.

The victim was later identified as Carlos La Madrid of Douglas by law enforcement officials. La Madrid later died at Sierra Vista Regional Health Center. He had been transported to Southeast Arizona Medical Center after the shooting, and they attempted to airlift him to Tucson. But high winds and his worsening condition made Sierra Vista the next logical site.

On Monday March 21, at approximately 12:43 p.m. the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised of an Officer involved shooting near the International boundary east of the Douglas Port of Entry.

Sheriff’s Deputies and Investigators arrived on scene and were advised that Douglas Police Department observed a Chevy Avalanche traveling in the Douglas area that appeared to be suspicious. Once the driver of the vehicle observed the Douglas Police Department unit, the driver fled at a high rate of speed southbound towards the International boundary.

US Border Patrol Agents were in the area when the vehicle made it to the border. At this time, there were rocks thrown at the Border Patrol agent who then fired his duty weapon striking the driver three times.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation also responded and will be conducting a joint investigation with the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office in this incident.

The Sheriff will investigate the shooting, while the FBI will handle the assault on a federal officer.

This man made several poor choices that led to his demise. Mexico is a failed state. The violence we see on the southside will carry over to our community if we continue to condone this behavior. Carlos did have drugs and an illegal immigrant in his truck. If he wasn't doing something illegal, why was he fleeing? Why were his buddies there with a ladder to help him cross? oh that was just a lucky coincidence huh?He was an American, why was he trying to illegally cross into Mexico during his flight from cops? You have absolutely no what you are talking about. I am currently a BP Agent in CA and it sickens me to read what you have posted. Imagine someone throwing a baseball 10 feet from you and striking you in the head. MLB players have been knocked out and suffered severe head injuries from similar incidents and they wear helmets . Now take that rock and add jagged edges and sharp points. Now do you still think its just a little ol' rock.

Upsetofthis-in no Law enforcement handbook it says shoot to wound and you never shoot tires, this isnt a video game or make believe child games. grow up

DOUGLASRESIDENT- I knew of someone who got rocked while in his vehicle and yea it just shattered the glass but glass fragments got in his eyes and destroyed his left cornea. Let me guess they didnt put that on the news because its ok to assault a law enforcement officer.

mark-corrupt? Fearing for ones life is corrupt. Let me stand in front of you and start throwing rocks.....are you going to thank me then walk away. You are being assaulted and Im pretty sure thats a crime.

Monica-same goes for you, your ignorant to look at the bigger picture. the rocks thrown by these criminals arent your little round soft garden stones. it is considered a deadly weapon. A beer bottle or glass bottle is considered a deadly weapon, fist deadly weapon, broom stick etc. He was trying to harm, injury or even kill the agent. if not why didnt he throw flowers or his wallet or his drugs that were in the car. Why dont you stop being one sided and look what actually is going on.

You guys that are trying to put down the BP agent should be ashamed of yourselves. Trying to protect america, his life and others lives and you all spit on him. Straight ignorance!

Please respond.......Im stating facts and ignorant opinions are being posted. "

When a criminal shots a criminal people just see it as part of the game. Mr. Gama had family in Douglas, AZ and I didn't even see his name in the paper. May these both young rest in peace. "

He made the choice to create a high speed chase in Douglas and try to flee from law enforcement. He mad the choice to ram a boder patrol agent. He made the choice to throw rocks at the boder patrol agents. Now he is dead and his family is hurting for his choices.
As far as his so called friends why did they not try to help him out instead of running away. His friends sat across the line video tapeing everything to put it on youtube. he crashed into the bp.
    he threw rocks.

thank god an all out war didn't start at the border with his spotters watching from the roof top across the border
thank god they stopped this criminal who apparently wasn't his first time running dope.
this is what is wrong with our society. people don't take responsibility for their actions.
instead of people saying "he got what he deserved for breaking the law"... they are saying "dumb border patrol is afraid of rocks".
may he rest in peace. he is now facing his true judge, GOD! may his family rest knowing that their son isn't running drugs anymore. may the community of douglas rest knowing one less criminal is off the street. may the law enforcement agencies involved rest knowing they did their job. "

Thats right, it could kill someone, therefore deadly force is justified. First of all, if it would have been a border patrol agent who was being shot and killed, right now the whole United States government would have been on the case, but since its not, the government refuses to make justice. I believe in my opinion justice should be made and stop with all this controversy. The Border Patrol agent who shot the man should simply plead to this case and get it over with. In the end were only human and people do make mistakes. There is absolutely nothing that can bring back the man's life. So I suggest justice for Calos Lamadrid's family and in the name of his memory.
