At the time Carlos La Madrid, 19, was shot, he was carrying 48.2 pounds of marijuana in his pickup.

La Madrid was shot three times in the back area and once in the shoulder by an unidentified Border Patrol agent who was under attack by rock thrower. The rocks were being thrown south of the border fence, according to Carol Capas, spokesperson for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Capas, there was a ladder placed on the north side of the border fence by the subject(s) standing on top of the fence, which La Madrid was climbing when he was shot.

A 17-year-old male, Jesus Manuel Chino Lino, jumped from the back of the vehicle and fled towards the border fence along with La Madrid. Lino was taken into custody by the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office and booked as an adult charged with Possession of Marijuana for Sale, Transportation of Marijuana, and Possession of Paraphernalia.

No weapons were found in the vehicle.

The confrontation occurred after the vehicle had stopped near the International Border after being chased by the Douglas Police Department.

" Get a grip. I'm sure the Border Patrol said "oh looky there. A mexican. Let's shoot him for no reason."

You must either be truely nieve to believe that is what happened.

How are you aware of what took place? Were you there? Have you ever been on the receiving end of a bullet or a rock? Drug smuggling is very dangerous. It happens on both sides of the border and it is sad. More people have died in the drug cartel wars than on the highway in the United States for a 2 year period.

It is truely tragic that he died, but with the violence that is taking place in the drug market today, Smuggling is now considered a "dangerous job." Like our soldiers, people in the trade should know the risks involved in the business. You can get arrested, hurt, shot and dead. "

" thats not true that carlos had weed in his truck thats just b.s to cover upp the stupid BP officer's mistake I just cant beleive how poeple here in d-town are so ignorant, and to think i was proud of this town, but with this tragedy it makes it real clear that what happened was an act of racism from part of he border patrol officer that shot my friend carlos, they could have saved him but the border patrol thought he was an illegal and left him there dying on the floor, this was cruel and there needs to be consequences I just hope they make justice and make that officer pay for what he did "

" It should also be mentioned that he was released from jail that morning - due to previous drug charges....only to fill his chevy avalanche up with more dope that same day! Why hasn't it also been in the stories that he hit the agents vehicle with his car even before the rocks were thrown. COME ON PEOPLE!!!! This is ridiculous! These Agents put their lives on the line everyday, and scumbag drug dealers threaten them, get shot, and the Agent is the bad guy for defending himself? Seriously, I am sorry that all of this happened but thats what can be expected when you flee from police, hit an agents car and your carrying dope....DUH! He also had a criminal history, he knew exactly what he was doing and what the consequences were! "

The victims are obvious with bad choices with no morals to do right( FREE CHOICE ). Money is a god and the deaths prove what tradgedies in can cause. Human lives mean nothing to the CARTELS and to the DEPENDENT drug user who could care less as long as he or she gets their FIX... "
