Bianka Tanori/Douglas Dispatch Edmond Garcia, Javier Campbell and Frank Bruno were on hand at the cemetery meeting to express their concern about any changes.

On Wednesday, March 30 , Parks and Cemetery supervisor Johnny Chavez and Ana Urquio held a meeting at the Douglas cemetery to clear up community rumors about the cemetery.

Those rumors included gravel replacing the grass in some sections of the cemetery had some people angry and demanding to make sure this was not going to happen.

Chavez, confirmed that it was in fact a rumor. “Nobody is doing anything to the green grass that the members of Douglas have worked so hard to make look so nice. After all when it comes to their loved ones, people will go to any lengths to make sure that their lots are safe and untouched.”

Christy Rios said, “It’s so easy for us to be targets of rumors such as these because these grounds hold the people that we love and would do anything to protect.” Edmond Garcia stated, “People get very emotional when it comes to their loved ones here at the cemetery, and we came here today to make sure that they would not do anything to disrupt the way things are here.”

Chavez also expressed to the people that they will soon have an office there at the cemetery for those that need assistance. Some of the people that came to the meeting also had some thoughts and concerns about the cemetery.

Javier Cambell voiced his concern about the way people bring their dogs to cemetery and use the restroom anywhere, which is disrespectful. He mentioned that perhaps something can be done to avoid this problem.

If anyone has any questions you may email Johnny Chavez at Johnny.chavez@douglasaz.gov . Or if anyone has additional concerns you may call Ana Urquijo at 417-7326.

" As it is the staff from the cematary do very little to keep up the maintenance, and the minimum if anything. In the past I have been harrasted by the former staff; steve and Pepe, to the point they would only shove a copy of the "policy" in my face and than blame each other. What is the harm if a resident wants only to keep up with their loved ones plots? really? The staff do very little to maintain the armed forces side. If someone is only doing general upkeep, help me understand the crime in all this? It got to the point Steve would watch me from afar and than drive up on me and again, shove a copy of the policy and blame Pepe. I'm glad they are both gone, but the problems still linger. "

" @Confused.....it's funny how you are one to put blame on people, just some words of advice next time you chose to put blame on people make sure you get the right names. I recently have been down to the Cemetery and was informed that Mr. Quinonez was no longer working with the Cemetery and has been in another department for almost 2 months. So if needs aren't met it's the wrong person your putting blame towards. As for the new building I think it's ridiculous knowing they have one already. It's ridiculous how all city vehicles are parked in front making it nearly impossible to do business there, even worse if city employees are in the back of the office. These drastic issues are arising now with new change of Cemetery Supervision, people forget us taxpayers make that Cemetery what it is so we expect better then the direction it looks like it's headed! It's funny how you are one to talk and put blame on people who don't even work there anymore! I have just recently been to the Cemetery for arrangements and was informed Mr. Quinonez was now working for the water department and has been there for more then a month! So maybe before you make any comment you should get your research facts!!! About this new building I feel things were fine till city vehicles took over parking. They make it nearly impossible to handle any businesses there now since all this change of cemetery supervision! "

" I agree with Confused, having attended a funeral service, where the city cemetary employee's who were extremely unprofessionally dressed (dirty and torn uniforms) hang around the funeral service laughing and talking not respecting the services at all. When asked for assistance, they couldn't even speak english. Were our tax city dollars in hiring these workers in spanish only applications and spanish only interviews, how they passed their interview for employement bewilders me. "

" I agree wiht Douglas Resident many vases have been disappearing and we all have the feeling that all the workers are invoved in this they seem to be pretty good when it comes to five finger discount. One other thing i never knew we had an office since that Quinonez guy is never available for help. I strongly suggest the city looks into this and hires someone who will actually be helpful. "

" I TOTALLY AGREE WIHT MR. CAMPBELL I THINK IT IS VERY DISRESPECTFUL FOR PEOPLE TO TAKE THEIR DOGS TO CR@P IN THE CEMETERY. PERHAPS THE CITY CAN START ISSUING FINES TO THESE PEOPLE. ONE OTHER THING I REALLY DISAGREE WITH PEOPLE GOING TO WALK INSIDE THE CEMETERY ESPECIALLY SINCE MANY VASES AND FLOWERS HAVE BEEN DISAPPEARING. I THINK COPS SHOULD KEEP AN EYE ON THAT ALSO. "

" Wait up. An office for those that need assistance? Isn't there an office now? What is Mr. Quinonez doing there, if assistance is not being provided to the public? The other problem is that his assistant can't communicate w/the public, when he can't speak English properly. I think the city is better off by hiring an outside contractor to maintain and beautify our cemetary. Our dearly departed deserve better, than what their getting now! "
