Priority Ready Lanes at the border

U.S. Customs and Border Protection will announce the start of an RFID priority Ready Lane for travelers with radio frequency identification (RFID) technology enabled documents at the Dennis DeConcini Port of Entry starting Monday, April 11, 2011. Ready Lanes will also be established at the Lukeville, Douglas, and San Luis ports of entry in the upcoming months. CBP will host a media event to provide information about Ready Lane.


Since implementation of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), June 1, 2009, U.S. and Canadian citizens entering the United States by land or sea from Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean, are required to present a valid, WHTI-compliant document.

Since implementation, CBP has strongly encouraged travelers to obtain an RFID-enabled, WHTI-compliant travel cards, such as a U.S. Passport card, Enhanced Driver’s License/Enhanced Identification Card (where available) or Trusted Traveler Program (SENTRI, FAST or NEXUS) card to expedite entry and make crossing the border more efficient. New Border Crossing Cards and Lawful Permanent Resident (green cards) also contain the RFID technology.

With the increased usage of RFID-enabled travel documents, CBP is implementing RFID priority Ready Lanes at several ports on both the northern and southern borders to expedite the border crossing process.
