On April 4, Copper Queen Community Hospital enhanced patient care through its latest telemedicine service — TelePulmonology.

TelePulmonology service targets patients suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, asthma and pneumonia.

As with other telemedicine services provided by CQCH, physicians will be able to remotely consult with pulmonary specialists in Tucson to most effectively and efficiently treat patients, and provide a higher level of specialty care. The program will save many patients both time and money by treating cases that would normally require a trip to Tucson.

“I am a strong advocate of telemedicine services,” said Dr. Daniel Allen Roe, medical director for the CQCH Emergency Department. “Through them, we are able to bring specialty care directly to our patients without time consuming and costly transport out of town and away from their family. Our partnerships with other healthcare organizations are fundamental to bringing this level of expertise to our patients.”

The relationships that CQCH has built through its telemedicine services are impressive. For its existing tele- cardiac, stroke, trauma and dermatology services, the hospital has fostered partnerships with some of the best hospitals and physician groups in the region, including the Mayo Clinic, Tucson Medical Center (TMC) and University Medical Center (UMC). The TelePulmonology program has created a partnership with Pulmonary Associates of Southern Arizona, which is affiliated with TMC.

“Copper Queen continues to forge a path into the future of rural healthcare,” said Jim Dickson, CQCH chief executive officer. “Our leadership team and medical staff continue to lead the way in bringing superior and efficient care to our rural community and patients.”

Copper Queen Community Hospital has a rich heritage dating back to the 1880s when it operated as a part of the mining community, so important to the history of Bisbee. Expanding the hospital’s outreach to the region is the Copper Queen Medical Associates group, which manages Rural Health Clinics in Bisbee, Douglas and Palominas/Hereford.
