New charter school open house April 9

In August of 2011, Douglas will have a new school for children going to kindergarten through 4th grade. The school will be called La Paloma.


Douglas Office Manager Veronica Valencia said, “The school will be a uniformed school, we are offering a full day of kindergarten beginning at 8:30 a.m through 3:15 p.m. The parents will like the fact that we are also offering a free before and after school program from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will also be sports for boys and girls.”

The charter school’s capacity is approximately 150 children. The location of the new school is 3715 N. Washington, which is on the corner of Washington and Highway 80.

On April 9, the staff from La Paloma will be having an informational event at the Airport park from 11-1 p.m. The Airport Park is located at 1300 W. Airport Rd, between 15th and 13th street. During this time there will be pre-enrolling students. “This event is family oriented because we will be giving away free backpacks to those children who were pre-enrolled, there will be free food, jumping castles, balloons and lots of fun for the entire family,” says Valencia.

On April 4, families may also go to the La Paloma center at its original location to pick up registration forms for their children. It will be open from 9 -1 p.m. If anyone has any questions you may contact Veronica Valencia at 520-252-7987. You may also look on their website, www.lpadouglas.org.
