Board has uneventful meeting

The Douglas Unified School District Governing Board took care of what can be termed “housekeeping” items in an quick meeting on Tuesday, May 22.


In action, the board:

√ Approved the hiring of Science teacher (DHS)- Ray Shelton.

√Approved Tech liaisons (all school sites) - Roxana Martinez, Luis Luna,

Gilbert Rojas, Elizabeth Cuevas, Judy Riddle, Maria Ruiz, Ibana

Rascon, Joanie Duarte, Carol Pedroza, and Erica Del Rio.

√ Approved extra duties/responsibilities as interim

assistant principal at Douglas High School for Melissa Rodriguez.

√ Approved addenda for Sheila Ayrom - administration of the Brigance assessment for students in the middle school alternative program; Carmen Hernandez “ extra duties/responsibilities as kindergarten teacher at two elementary schools; and Tutoring (before & after school) - Carmen Hernandez, Michael Molina, Rebecca Saspe, Mark Ruiz, Roxana Martinez, Maira Gonzalez, Carmen Hernandez, Laura Alvarado, Kristina Arvizu and

Liza Morales.

√ Approved additional hours/week (outside of contracted workday) to provide assistance to students at Douglas High School for Jose Baeza.

√ Approved Special education training programs - Principals' training program - April through June; and District-wide workshop/training program- March through May.

√ Approved Elisa Owen as a volunteer tennis coach.

√ Approved the hiring of Health aide specialist (DHS) - Tamara Martinez.

√ Approved the retirement notice submitted by Rebecca Gonzalez,

instructional aide, for the end of the 2010/2011 school year.

√ Approved termination of employment (abandonment of position) of Jazmin Montano, food service worker.

3. Approved out of state travel for Ralph Schneider, DHS principal, Bianca Hernandez, DHS department chair, and Andrea Overman, Huber MS principal, to attend the Annual Collaborative Job Fair - Western New Mexico University in Silver City, NM on May 3.

√ Approved out of state travel for Dara Logan, Director-Special Services, and Beverly Enriquez, Director-Office of School Improvement, to attend the Council for Exceptional Children's Convention and Expo in National Harbor, Maryland on April 25-28.

√ Approved out of state travel for Career and Technical Education teacher, Lourdes Mora and three Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) students to attend the 2011 DECA International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida on April 28-May 4.

√ Donation of school sign with an approximate value of $500 to Faras Elementary from Cochise.

√ Approved first reading of revisions to the following policies: "Part-Time and Substitute Professional Staff Employment,” and "Support Staff Vacations and Holidays." The Board was informed of revisions to "Public's Right to Know/Freedom of Information.”

√ Approveed naming of Mario Ramos as Official Delegate to represent DUSD #27

at the AZ School Boards Association Delegate Assembly on June 25.

√ Approved DUSD #27 Governing Board's support of administrative directive for no travel to Mexic
