Carlos Bojorquez and Sean Gallardo are current senior students at the Douglas High School, but more important is they are part of the Marching Band that represents the best of music in our community.

Carlos Bojorquez

Carlos is an 18-years-old Tenor Saxophone player who enjoys very much playing in the Marching Band and the Jazz Band. “Music takes everything out. Getting into music is like nothing else is going on anymore.”

Carlos has been playing the tenor saxophone since 6th grade at Ray Borane Middle School. During that time, Carlos was taught the technique required to play the instrument. Later on, he started attending the High School music classes while he was a sophomore. Since then, he has been playing in both groups because he founds interesting aspects in each of one. “In Marching Band we use music to cheer up the crowd and with the Jazz band we use music to calm down everybody and to entertain them using different techniques and sounds.”

Future plans

Even Carlos is planning to study to become a Chef and attend to Pima College his music experience goes with him and he is also planning to continue playing the saxophone. “For me, saxophone is perfect because I can mix several ideas from various music styles in what I do with the Jazz Band. Being part of this group is really fun. So come by and join us.”

Sean Gallardo

Sean was born in Indiana 18 years ago, but he has been living in Douglas for the past 14 years so he feels part of this community. Sean plays the Baritone, which is a brass instrument. “I basically chose the Baritone because my mom and I wanted to learn something unique. At Huber everyone was choosing clarinet, trumpet, and the common instruments, but I wanted to be in a certain way unique by playing the Baritone.”

Sean is part of the Marching band because he remembers being part of the Football team and when he listened to the Marching band cheering up the people he liked that feeling. “Is great to get them up and make them feel good through music.”

Sean started studying the Baritone when he was at Huber Middle School. His music teacher there was Mr. Lindemann.

Future plans

Sean is planning to become an Engineer and to do so he will attend to the University of Arizona but, his feelings towards music and his instrument won’t change. “I’m going to try to audition for the U of A Band because I’ve heard is a great group and I want to be part of it.”
