Recently, KVOA, Channel 4 from Tucson broadcast a story about Katie and Delaney, two senior Chihuahuas that found loving arms among senior citizens from Oro Valley. What maybe people don’t know is that Katie and Delaney are Douglas natives.

But according to the Douglas Animal Shelter and Estrada, not all the rescued dogs have the same luck as Katie and Delaney. “Today (Friday, June 17), we found a poodle dog, “Madison”, we groomed it and we discover that he was in really bad shape. Apparently he was “trashed” by former owners.” It looks that this poodle can be considered as an “adoptable dog” and the Animal Shelter is currently trying to give a good care in order to find a good home for him in the future.
Estrada also said “By law, if the animal has a collar or we know the owner, we keep the dog for five working days. If the dog is not claimed, we keep the animal for 72 hours, but if it is an adoptable dog we can keep it from three to ten days to find a good home for it. The last resort is to put the animal to sleep. But, the Animal Shelter has assisted us in rescuing the animals in an excellent way. And if wasn’t for the Humane Society the euthanasia rate would be higher than what is now.”
Options for animals
According to the Animal Shelter, anyone from Douglas and the surrounding area can visit them if they want to adopt a pet. The process is very easy and they will contribute to better the future of animals that deserve a better chance to survive.
For more information about adopting a pet people can visit the Animal Shelter, located at 2017 N. Rodgers Ave. or call (520) 417-7567 or visit the website www.petfinder.com.

... According to Smiling Dog Rescue, Blue was killed by Officer Estrada at the Douglas Animal Control facility on Sunday...24 hours before his happily ever after.
According to Smiling Dog Rescue:
SDR spoke with Estrada today in an effort to learn why he had prematurely and unnecessarily killed an innocent dog who had a home - he had no reasonable explanation. SDR also spoke to Estrada's supervisor, Lt. Fullin. Fullin admitted that this officer had been disciplined before, had no authority in this case to kill this dog, and would face further disciplinary action because of it.
