Consular Gala: An event to remember
For the second consecutive year, the Consul of Mexico, Oscar Antonio de la Torre Amezcua, hosted a special evening in Douglas on December 15 at the Knights of Columbus, this time with the noble purpose of thanking and recognizing community leaders of Douglas, Arizona and Agua Prieta, Sonora, for their hard work to strengthen bilateral relations and for the support to the Mexican community.

EPA orders water company serving area outside of Douglas to cut arsenic levels or face big fines
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has ordered the Monte Vista Water Company, which provides water to 150 residents north of Douglas, to reduce arsenic levels in its drinking water system or face penalties of up to $37,500 per day for each violation.

Douglas man nabbed in Sierra Vista pot bust
A Douglas man and his friend from Tucson were arrested Dec. 21 in Sierra Vista on charges of possession and transportation of marijuana after a traffic stop on Moson Road netted more than 100 pounds of pot.

The Douglas Police Department would like to remind all drivers that school in back in session. Posted speed limits within the school zones are 15 miles per hour and all vehicles must stop when the children are in the crosswalks.

Rec Center offers Winter Break Camp
School might be on break but fun is always available at the Douglas Recreation Center. During the weeks of December 26-30 and January 2-6 the Winter Break Camp offered lots of fun activities, such as assorted games, arts and crafts, outdoor activities and movie times to kids from 5-12 years old.
Possible postal closure could affect Douglas mail
Douglas residents could find it taking longer to get their mail if the United States Postal Service has its way of closing its mail processing center in Tucson.

IT Director at City of Douglas Andrew Dym received a special Employee Service Award in recognition of his accomplishments on behalf of City of Douglas, at regular City Council Meeting which was held on Wednesday, January 11.
