Fimbres said there are 18 volunteers on the current board and each of them has a specific job.
“In the past we used to give out food twice a week now we’re doing it five times a week, he said.
Effective last week the Food Bank will now be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to noon each day.
Fimbres said the hours could change slightly when summer comes around.
The new president said there are currently four different types of programs being run through the food bank.
The first is the daily operation then there is the monthly commodities distribution. There is also the senior / handicap commodities program and the fourth program is the FEMA Program in which families can come into the food bank once every three months and pick up a variety of canned foods. Hours for that program will be Monday through Friday from 2-3 p.m.
Fimbres said the state board requested a change in the Douglas Food Bank board of directors in order to “get in compliance”.
Fimbres said commodities distribution usually takes place the third Monday of every month but this month and next those dates will change due to the holidays falling on distribution dates.
This month’s food commodities distribution will take place on Friday, Jan. 27 starting at 9 a.m. Proof of residency and a photo ID is required.
Next months distribution will take place on Feb. 13.
The building the Food Bank is located in was donated to the organization by the late Dr. George Spikes.
