DHS matmen fall to Amphi

The Douglas High School wrestling team closed out the home portion of its schedule last Wednesday falling to Amphi 55-21 in the DHS gym.


Douglas High School’s wrestling program honored its six departing senior wrestlers and two managers prior to last week’s home match with Amphi. Prior to the match starting Coach Richard Ross honored his six graduating seniors wrestlers as well as his two managers.

Cristian Ross, wrestling at 103-pounds for Douglas, dropped a 15-0 decision in his match.

Rogelio Martinez at 113 and Israel Andrade at 120, both won their matches by forfeit.

At 126-pounds, Joseph Fraijo was pinned in 3:34.

Jose Moreno followed at 132 and he was pinned in 3:35.

Nick Campoy wrestled at 138 and he was pinned in 4:32.

Jose Salinas, wrestling at 145-pounds, lost a 9-3 decision.

Felipe Linares, wrestling at 152, edged his opponent 3-1.

Brandon Moreno was pinned in 4:19 at 160 pounds.

Joseph Alvarez was pinned in 1:34 at 170.

Douglas’ Luis Maytorena needed just 35 seconds to pin his opponent at 182.

Diego Resendiz was pinned at 4:45 at 195, Roly Ruiz was pinned in 2:15 at 220 and at heavyweight Douglas’ Robert Young was pinned in 3:30.

Coach Ross said afterwards he was really proud of how the Bulldogs wrestle.

“With such a young team our goal all year is to see improvement and the kids showed,” he said. “The last time we meet we did not do very well but we knew we had a lot of work to do.:

Sectionals will be at Sabino High School Feb 3-4 with State at Prescott the following weekend.
