Douglas Police Detectives are continuing their investigation into a stabbing that occurred Thursday, Jan. 12 at the Coronado Courts Apartment Complex.

According to Sgt. Jose Duarte of the Douglas Police Dept. at approximately 9:30 p.m. Douglas Police and Douglas Fire Department Personnel were dispatched to the area of 18th Street and Carmelita Avenue, in reference to a fight where a man had been stabbed.

Upon arrival, Sgt. Duarte said Douglas Police Officers found a 41 year old male victim who had sustained a stab wound to his abdomen area.

Witnesses at the scene told the officers that a group of subjects were seen headed west through the Coronado Courts after being involved in the altercation.

“Officers began a search of the area and found a group of subjects at the 1500 block of B Avenue, who matched the description of the possible persons involved in the fight,” Duarte said.

As officers attempted to make contact with two individuals, one of those subjects fled on foot and was subsequently caught and detained at the 1500 block of A Avenue.

The subject was later identified as Luis Carlos Duran and a search of Duran revealed a pocket knife which was believed to be the weapon used at the stabbing.

Sgt. Duarte said officers detained Mr. Duran and a 15 year old male juvenile for involvement in the stabbing. Both were transported to the Cochise County Jail.

According to Sgt. Duarte the Douglas Police Department is not releasing the name of the juvenile until he is adjudicated as an adult by the Judge. Duran was charged with aggravated assault and the Juvenile with facilitation to commit the aggravated assault.

The victim was flown to Tucson by Douglas Fire Department personnel after the stabbing and was uncooperative with officers regarding the fight prior to be flown, Duarte said.

Duarte added Douglas Police Detectives will continue with their investigation and witness interviews.

If anyone witnessed the fights, Douglas Police Department would like for them to call 520-417-7550 and assist in determining what took place.
