The 1300 block of A Ave. was blocked off for a while Friday afternoon as detectives from the Douglas Police Dept. continued their investigation after making a narcotics seizure.

According to Sgt. Jose Duarte of the Douglas Police Dept. around 1:20 Friday afternoon an on duty DPD officer made contact with a vehicle, described as a black in color 2001 Nissan Frontier with Sonoran plates in the 1400 block of A Avenue.

Sgt. Duarte said the officer had observed that the vehicle was only in possession of one license plate and since the vehicle was stopped, the officer made contact with the driver, identified as Jorge Alberto Dorame Grijalva, 27, of Mexico.

While talking with Grijalva the DPD officer observed two boxes in the bed of the truck. When the officer inquired about the boxes, the driver stated that he was carrying a fan and a lamp. Further inspection revealed one of the boxes contained packages which appeared to be filled with marijuana. The officer detained the male subject for further questioning and subsequently conducted a search at the 1300 block of A Avenue being that the vehicle had been seen at that residence. After the search warrant was obtained and the premises searched, Douglas Police officers did not find any further evidence at the scene.

The driver was charged with possession of marijuana, marijuana for sale, transportation of marijuana for sale and he was transported to the Cochise County jail. A total of 19.70 pounds was seized during the incident.
