Chamber to host Political Forum at City HallBy Francisco Barrios
The Douglas Chamber of Commerce invites all interested people to participate in a Political Forum for the incoming elections for Mayor and three Douglas City Council seats to be held on Tuesday, February 28 from 6-8 p.m. at the Douglas City Hall, located at 425 10th St.
The forum will be transmitted live by KDAP F.M. radio with Howard Henderson serving as moderator.
The event will begin with a three minute opening statement by all the candidates, which include Daniel “Dj” Morales and Danny Ortega Jr. both running for Mayor of Douglas; incumbent Councilmember Margaret Morales will remain as Council woman for Ward 1; Lynn Kartchner will be challenging incumbent Benjamin “Ben” LaForge for Ward 3 and Lourdes “Lou” Estrada and Luis Greer will try to become the new Councilmember for Ward 5 to Ivan Huish, who is not seeking another term since the City Charter states that that a council person may not serve more than two consecutive terms in office. Huish will complete his second consecutive term in June of this year.
Following the opening statements will be a question and answer session. All questions will be written on note cards taken from the audience or phone calls from the listening audience. Questions will be read to the candidates by Henderson, in which each candidate will have two minutes to respond.
After the Q & A session, each candidate will have a two-minute closing statement.
The primary and general elections for the City of Douglas will be held March 13 and May 15 respectively.
