Lady netters begin season with 9-0 win

The Douglas Lady Bulldog tennis team kicked off its season last Friday with a 9-0 shutout over Flowing Wells.

In singles play, Kim Cormier, playing No. 1 singles for Douglas, posted a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Tanya Nunez was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 2 singles.

At No. 3 singles Argentina Morales won her match 6-1, 6-1.

Valeria Cordova, playing at No. 4 singles, was a 6-3, 6-0 winner.

Erika Romero won her No. 5 singles match 6-1, 6-0 and Marissa Aguirre was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 6 singles.

In doubles play, Cormier and Nunez won their match 8-1.

Morales and Cordova were 8-3 winners as was Romero and Aguirre.

In JV play Kim Ruiz, Alexia Melgoza, Fernanda Quiroz and Emily Owen all won their singles matches 8-0.

In doubles play Ruiz and Melgoza and Quiroz and Owen both won their doubles matches by scores of 8-0.

“(We) played with a great deal of determination, and although it was quite obvious from the beginning that the Lady Bulldogs were the superior team, (we) maintained a strong focus and played well throughout the match,” Douglas’ coach Ken Cormier said afterwards.

The Lady Bulldogs are in Nogales today.
