Lady Bulldogs 10-run ruled by Buena By Bruce WhettenDouglas Dispatch Fresh off a 5-3 performance at the El Paso Tournament Feb. 23-25 the Lady Bulldogs were in Sierra Vista Feb. 29 taking on the Buena Colts. Douglas jumped out to a brief early lead before Buena ended it in the sixth when a solo home run led resulted in a 14-4 thumping. Andrea Lugo led off the game with a base hit and Victoria Mariscal followed with a home run giving Douglas a 2-0 lead after a half inning of play. Buena added one in the bottom half of the first and also left the bases loaded. Douglas had its chances in the third but was unable to score and left the bags full. In the bottom half of the inning the Lady Colts pushed two runs across taking a 3-2 lead. Buena added three more in the fourth taking a 6-2 lead. Mariscal hit her second two run home run of the game in the top half of the fifth cutting Buena’s lead to 6-4. In the bottom half of the fifth Buena erupted for seven runs before hitting the solo home run in the sixth which ended the game with the Lady Colts 10 run ruling Douglas. Jennifer Montoya started the game in the pitchers circle for Douglas going three innings and giving up three runs off eight hits while walking one. Sydnee Estrella came in to throw the next three innings and she was tagged for 11 runs off seven hits while walking two. The two Douglas pitchers failed to record a strikeout while the Buena pitcher fanned 15 batters. Douglas had just five hits in the game. Mariscal was 2 for 3 with two homeruns giving her three on the season. Lugo was 2 for 4 and Danae Meza 1 for 3.
