Two Tucson men are under arrest after authorities say they stole a vehicle from a Sierra Vista dealership prior to a pursuit on Highway 80 near Douglas.

Daniel Lee Harris, 37, was charged with burglary, unlawful flight from law enforcement and vehicle theft and Walter Charles Downs Jr., 27, was charged with vehicle theft after Cochise County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an alarm call at Wheels Deals, 1800 Highway 92, at 9:27 p.m. Friday.

There, the manager advised that a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe was missing from the lot, according to a Saturday release from the sheriff’s office.

Area law enforcement were made aware of the stolen vehicle and a short time later, at 10:16 p.m., sheriff’s deputies advised they were attempting to stop a vehicle matching the description on Highway 80 near Douglas. The vehicle was following a green minivan, and neither vehicle was stopping for either deputies or U.S. Border Patrol.

The pursuit continued east on Highway 80 toward New Mexico.

The sheriff’s office terminated its pursuit after the minivan wrecked outside of Douglas. The occupants of the van got into the stolen Tahoe, which continued east, the release reads.

The minivan was later found to be stolen out of Tucson.

Border Patrol agents continued the pursuit of the Tahoe before advising the vehicle traveled several miles off road near mile marker 391. The occupants then fled the vehicle on foot into the desert.

Border Patrol air support responded to the area and soon after the two men were apprehended.

Both suspects were transported to the Border Patrol station before deputies transported them back to the county jail for booking.
