The Douglas School Board met on Feb. 21 in the board room of the Central Administration Building.

This meeting was fairly short as the board moved quickly through its agenda before going into a two and a half hour study session.

At the meeting the board recognized the District Spelling Bee winners and runners-up that were able to attend the meeting. The students received certificates and shook hands with each of the board members.

In the action portion of the meeting the board approved the services of Lynn Price, a Certified School Psychologist for the Special Services Dept. Price will be paid $50 per hour and the money will come out of the IDEA Basic Grant.

The board also designated Cesar Soto, Douglas’ new business manager as the student activities/auxiliary treasurer for the district. Superintendent Sheila Rogers said state statue requires this to be done.

The board also approved a list of items that will be auctioned off at a later date.

A donation to the DHS Athletic Dept. from the Wells Fargo Educational Matching Gift Program in the amount of $400 was also approved as was a donation of $13.54 from the Safeway Back to School Program to Faras and Stevenson Schools.

The board approved the hiring of substitute teachers Laura Miller, Tanner Herbert and Samantha Renova as well as Esther Galaz as a Special Ed instructional Aide at Sarah Marley.

Lorraine Ballesteros had her resignation approved as a Special Ed instructional Aide at Sarah Marley and Robert Alvarado resigned as a cafeteria worker.

Following the business portion of the agenda the board went into a study session for two and a half hours where Soto and Sonia Barcelo presented a power point presentation on the districts budget. Since this was a work study session no action was taken by the DUSD board.

The next board meeting will take place March 6 at 5:30 in the board room of the Central Administration Building. Spring Break is scheduled for March 12-16.
