Looking ahead to second semester Sheila Rogers As second semester progresses, there is much to look forward to with our DHS Seniors and graduation. This is such an exciting event for these students and their families. There is still much to accomplish in the classroom. Our DUSD middle school and elementary teachers continue to have professional development time on Tuesday afternoons. This time enables our teachers to learn new strategies to enhance the learning of our students. This semester, our building administrators are leading the Professional Learning Communities. AIMS testing for the elementary and middle schools will be the week of April 16th. High School AIMS was held Feb. 28-29 and will be again April 10-11. This is a critical time for our students as AIMS scores are very important to our students and to our District. More information will be sent to you by the schools as the time approaches. It is extremely important that students attend school. Being absent disrupts learning. Please help us by making sure your child is in school unless there is an illness that prohibits attendance. While being at school is always important, it is critical during AIMS testing. This year, DUSD will be hosting our first annual Douglas Diamond Scholar Night. Students from fourth through twelfth grades, who have demonstrated exemplary academic success, as well as good citizenship, will be honored in a ceremony at the James Brenden Auditorium on Monday, April 23, 2012. Students, who qualify for this, will be notified at the end of the third quarter after grades are posted. The next few months will be busy for all of our students in the Douglas Unified School District! |
