Alfonso, who was born to Luciano and Julia Ramirez on November, 24, 1948, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Monday, at Tucson Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He died peacefully. He had fought hard; his battle with alcoholism was over, thirty years of suffering with this illness had taken its toll. He was never able to “get the monkey off his back.” He would say, “I’ve tried to be a good person, just say a prayer for me, when I am gone.” Alfonso was born in Douglas and had lived here all his life. Alfonso was a beloved son, father, brother, cousin, nephew, and friend. He always lived and approached life with a sense of humor. He loved to joke, imitate people, and clown around. He was known as “Neni” to his family, and the rest of the world knew him as “Papago.” His life-long hobbies included a love for Mexican Corridos, composing a few himself (“El Corrido del Zaino de Agua Prieta,” “Los Famosos Ramirez”); playing the guitar; an intrigue with Native American Cultures and Indigenous People; and making turquoise jewelry. He also had an entrepreneurial spirit, always looking for treasures to buy and sell. His favorite places to sell his treasures were Tombstone and Old Bisbee. He enjoyed being photographed by tourists as the “Papago” from Cochise County, and he did this until a week before he died. He was greatly loved and highly respected by his family and friends, he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his father, Luciano Ramirez, Sr. and mother, Julia Cordova Ramirez and grandparents, Rosario and Felipa Ramirez, and Manuela and Ypolito Cordova. He is a descendant of the Ramirez Families from McNeal and Elfrida, AZ, and the Cordova Family from Jecori, Sonora, Mexico. He is survived by five sons, all residing in Douglas: Alberto (Letty) Moore Ramirez; Alfonso Moore Ramirez, Alejandro Moore Ramirez, Adrian Moore, and Alvin Moore. His siblings include: Lorenzo (Angie) Ramirez, Bisbee, AZ; Luciano (Tonia) Ramirez, Jr., Palm Springs, CA; Alfonso (Maria de los Angeles) Ramirez Ruiz, Cd. Obregon, Son., Mexico; Olga (Gerardo “Tex” Miguez) Ramirez de Miguez, Hereford, AZ; Maria (Michael) McGinnis, Douglas, AZ; Luciana (Jeff) Rivera, Tucson, AZ; and Belem Vazquez, Douglas, AZ. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Alma Leilanie; Augustin Antonio; Isaac Alberto; Alfonso Damian; and Lindsey Leeann. He also leaves four nieces that live in Douglas: Elizabeth (Javier) Madero; Eryka (Robert) Estrada; Yolanda Ramirez; and Jasmine Dominguez; other nieces include: Julie (Michael) Warner, Cathedral City, CA; Laura (Brian) Bauger, Tucson, AZ; and Maria de los Angeles, Cd. Obregon, Son., Mexico; He has three nephews: Paul (Tina) Ramirez, Tucson, AZ; Angel Vazquez, Douglas, AZ ; and Christian Gael, Cd. Obregon, Son., Mexico. He also leaves many cousins, aunts and uncles and of course many friends. We want to thank the entire staff at the Southeast Arizona Medical Center Emergency Unit for their dedicated efforts to save Alfonso’s life. A big thank you goes to Life Net, the air-evacuation team, and also thanks to Tucson Medical Center Emergency staff that worked diligently around the clock to save his life. A Rosary Service, Pastoral Prayers & Eulogies will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 7:00 PM at the Brown Page Mortuary Chapel. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers who will serve are Alberto Moore Ramirez, Alejandro Moore Ramirez, Alvin Moore, Luciano Ramirez, Jr., Johnny Moore, John Curiel, and Claudio Ramirez. Honorary Pallbearers are Alfonso Moore Ramirez, Paul J. Ramirez, Adrian Moore, Lorenzo Ramirez, Gerardo Miguez, Michael McGinnis, Robert Swift, Robert Estrada, Javier Madero, Martin Ramirez, Jr., Mitchell Swift, and Alfonso Ramirez Ruiz .
