Danny Ortega’s Jr. won last week’s Mayoral race here in Douglas.

Along with Ortega, Luis Greer will fill the soon to be vacant Ward 5 City Council seat. Joining them will be incumbents Ben LaForge and Margaret Morales who ran unopposed for Ward 1.

All four will take over office in June and then have the task of running this city along with the other members of the city council who were not up for election.

Many challenges lay ahead for the new City Council as Douglas attempts to move forward among those being a sagging economy, street improvements and what to do about the HURF Funds that are being taken away by the state.

In his story which appears on front page of the Douglas Dispatch this week Ortega talks of his plans for the next four years and how he feels that with the support of the community, Douglas, as a whole, can move forward.

Ortega has been involved in many different aspects of the community for many years and that, combined with running a successful local family business, shows he does have Douglas’ best interest at heart.

We wish him and the other appointees well.
