The City of Douglas is asking for your cooperation in complying with City of Douglas ordinances DMC Title 8.32.140 & 8.16.

These two ordinances pertain to alley maintenance and the proper manner in which garbage must be prepared for pick up by City sanitation employees stated Scott Lehman City of Douglas Code Enforcement Officer.

Residents are responsible for maintaining from the rear property line to the center of the alley and from their front property line to the edge of the pavement of adjacent streets. These areas must be clear of weeds and garbage at all times.

Garbage must be securely bagged then placed in garbage cans no larger than 32 gallon. Lehman advices residents to use regular garbage bags instead of grocery store bags for securing trash. Garbage cans must not weigh more than 65 pounds. Lehman also advices home owners to label your trash cans with home address.

“The biggest problem the city is seeing is containing garbage,” he said. “Animals get into the garbage and scatter it around.”

‘Your participation as a Douglas resident is irreplaceable in keeping our City a clean and good place to live”, Lehman said.

A special pickup with the City of Douglas can be arranged at a flat rate fee of $15 per pickup plus the cost of transfer station fees. If you have any question regarding garbage pick and or special pickups, call (520) 417-7310.
