California sisters arrested for heroin smuggling attempt Douglas Dispatch Two sisters from Palo Alto, Calif., were arrested Thursday, April 12, for allegedly attempting to smuggle more than 24 pounds of heroin through the Douglas Port of Entry Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to the Tucson Field Office referred 22-year-old Alpan Prasad and her 20-year-old sister, Alina, for a secondary inspection of their GMC Jimmy after a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs. Officers later removed the front axle and found multiple packages of heroin duct-taped inside the axle. The drugs, valued at $332,000, and vehicle were processed for seizure. The sisters were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
