Meet the Douglas Turning Point

What started in 1998 as an approach to foster innovation and collaboration to the well-being of our community is now a local network between businesses, agencies, and community members working to make Douglas a better place; this is the Douglas Turning Point.

The Douglas Turning Point celebrated on March 21 its 156th monthly meeting since it started in October of 1998. As explained by Meeting’s Facilitator Carol Huddleston, the Douglas Turning Point started when the Cochise County Health Department applied for and received a federal grant that was designated to create a networking meeting held monthly to share and learn information to help with collaborative efforts to enhance the health of Douglas as a community.

According to Huddleston, any interested member of the community working at any company, agency, and organization of any type of business can assist to the meetings and share valuable information that could be useful to anybody related with the information.

“All people need to do is come and share their information because there is always something to hear and learn about,” Huddleston said. “This is an exchanging network that will tell you what the different agencies, companies, businesses, and organizations are and what they do for you.”

The Turning Point meets on the third Wednesday each month at 7:30 a.m. at the Douglas Fire Station, located at block 1400 10th St. Attendees are composed of a variety of representatives that include law enforcement agencies, non-profit organizations and services, medical facilities, educational institutions, city government, faith-based organizations and interested community members.

Each month a guest speaker has the chance to share information with the audience for a space of 20-30 minutes. Then, all attendees share updates, new services, announcements, and they share information packets about different types of services or events happening in Douglas.
