Between the two leagues an estimated 400 kids are playing either baseball or softball and T-Ball has yet to start. That season will start in mid-May.

The DGSL kicked off its season Friday night at the softball field at the 15th Street Park. There are 21 teams in the league this year, five in the minis, seven in the minors and nine in the majors. Games began last week and will run through mid June.

A postseason tournament will take place following the regular season for each of the three divisions.

The DGSL dedicated their season to Marisela Moore, mother to two local softball players, who lost her life recently.

Her daughters Adrian Moore and Cheyenne Vega took part in the ceremonial first pitch.

The Douglas Little League held its opening ceremonies on a windy Saturday morning.

The opening ceremonies were followed by four games.

There are 17 teams competing in three divisions this year, six in the Minors AA (the old Termite League); five in the Minors AAA and six in the majors.

Douglas Little League dedicated its season to longtime youth supporter Jesus "Chuy" Escarcega who along with his sons was on hand as he threw out the ceremonial first pitch Saturday.

Games will take place throughout the week at the 15th Street Little League Field; at the old Termite Field at 18th Street and Bonita and occasionally at the 8th Street Park.
