Bulldog netters end regular season

The Douglas Bulldog tennis team ended its regular season last week with a pair of wins that gave them a 13-1 regular season record.

The Bulldogs beat Valley Union 8-1 and Bisbee 7-2.

Against Valley Union Edwin Celado was an 8-2 winner at No. 1 singles.

John Owen won his match 8-2 at No. 2 singles and Jesus Moreno was also an 8-0 winner at No. 3 singles.

Lucas Grijalva at No. 4 singles and Diego Luy at No. 5 singles both won their matches 8-0.

Ben Rivera was a 9-0 winner at No. 6 singles.

In doubles play Owen and Moreno fell 8-6. Celado and Grijalva were 8-0 winners as were Luy and Rivera.

Against Bisbee Celado won his match 8-2; Owen and Moreno were 8-0 winners. Grijalva fell 8-6, Rivera won 8-2 and Adrian Vildosola, playing in the No. 6 spot, won 8-2.

In doubles play Celado and Owen were 8-0 winners. Moreno and Grijalva fell 8-5 and Rivera and Vildosola won their match 8-0.

On April 13 the Bulldogs downed Bisbee 9-0 at home.

Celado, Owen, Moreno, Luy and Vildosola all won their matches 8-0 while Rivera was a 7-1 winner.

In doubles play all three teams won their matches by scores of 8-0.

On April 12 the Bulldogs edged Benson 6-3.

Celado lost 2-8, Owen won 8-4, Moreno won 8-6, Grijalva was an 8-5 winner, Rivera posted an 8-3 win and Adrian Vildosola fell 4-8.

In doubles play Celado and Grijalva were 8-5 winners, Owen and Moreno won 8-3 and Rivers and Vildosola lost 2-8.

The Bulldogs hosted Morenci April 24 in a team sectional tournament. Those results will be in next week’s paper.
