Three of the educators honored, Priscilla Cordova, a fourth grade teacher at Carlson Elementary; Ana Daniel, a sixth grade teacher at Huber Middle School and Ruth de Boer, a special education teacher at Douglas High School, all competed in the county event the following night in Sierra Vista.

At Thursday’s ceremony in Douglas, DUSD Superintendent Sheila Rogers said all the people at the ceremony have one common goal. “We are all here for the students; the children of the Douglas Unified School District,” she said. “I would like to say thank you to each and every one of you who have made a contribution to the students.”

Assistant Superintendent Bonnie Lopez said this was a very elite group as they are part of a wonderful process of educating the children. “I feel very honored to be, along with Ms. Rogers, to be a part of a wonderful district, a wonderful team,” she said. “Not to say we’re perfect but we strive to be.”

DUSD Board President Mario Ramos said he considered himself fortunate because this is the second time he’s had the opportunity to honor the wonderful teachers, support staff and parent volunteers. “From the bottom of my heart I want you to know how much I appreciate your hard work, the time and effort you put in,” he said.

" No disrespect to Ms. Jackson while I am sure she has done a great job in her position, but really? When the director of food services wins administrator of the year, maybe d.u.s.d. should re-evaluate their own principals and even asst. principals for that matter, to find highly qualified, hard-working, and recognizable administrators that would earn themselves an "admin. of the year" award. I am also upset with a few d.u.s.d. teachers and students as well, as they are constantly posting status updates and photos on particular social networking sites during school hours. Don't administrators monitor these types of things? Especially for the staff members for they should be held to very high standards. Perhaps thats why the head of the lunch lady's is winning the admin of the year. hmmmm... "

" My uncle, ARMANDO DE LUCAS, and my Dad, EDGARDO DE LUCAS, would have been so very very proud you, Kristina Tinsley-Arvizu. Our family extends their congratulations to you, from Colorado. Way to go, KRISTINA!!!!!
